Our ship would spend two days and one night in port. As I was not flying out until Monday afternoon, I stayed onboard on Saturday night (cheaper than at a hotel). After we docked, I went shopping at the cruise terminal––duty free stores, souvenir stores, etc. I bought gifts here to bring home and then brought them back to the ship.

I got off the ship again to take a shuttle into Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Bridgetown was crowded today with many passengers from those big cruise ships. I walked around Bridgetown and I have put the photos that I took during my walk on a slide show on this website: Go to Slide Shows, Caribbean, “Barbados, Bridgetown.”  This is a photo of the Carenage in Bridgetown. I went back on my ship after my walk and ate dinner on it as well.

Sunday morning I spent trying to figure out how to pack everything that I had bought during the cruise into the space that I had available. I definitely was leaving the ship with much more than I had taken on. I was overloaded, but, luckily, the three delightful young girls from the UK who I ate dinner with last night were leaving the ship at the same time as I was and they helped me make it intact to the customs station at the cruise terminal. I was somewhat sad to leave the easyCruise I––I wished that I had booked two consecutive cruises on it. For the second cruise, since I had already done most of my sightseeing, I would have gone on some of the sea and surf adventures that easyCruise was offering. From the cruise terminal, I took a taxi to my hotel––again, the Blue Horizon. I was given a third floor room this time––not so many steps to it. After checking in, I took a walk through an area of Barbados called St. Lawrence Gap, which has many hotels, restaurants, shops, and nightlife. It was about a mile from my hotel. It was extremely hot and humid today and overcast. But also a good day to walk on the beach. I walked back to my hotel along the beach. The photo shows the beach in front of the Pisces Restaurant at St. Lawrence Gap, where I started my walk.

More rocks and sand puddles in the water. Here, I was afraid that I would fall and, hence, drop my camera in the water. I ended my walk on the beach and walked back on the street to my hotel. Better to do this walk in a bathing suit (I had long pants on, which did get a bit wet) and without a camera. It had started to rain, which continued through the night. At least someone told me it did, as when I got back to my hotel I decided that I needed a nap. I didn’t wake up until 13 hours later.

Monday. Judy, the woman from the UK who I had met before my cruise, still was at the Blue Horizon. This was also her last day in Barbados. We had both breakfast and lunch together. Between those times, I rented a lounge chair with an umbrella at Rockley Beach (full–day rental is $7.50 U.S. and you can leave and come back) and read a book for a couple of hours.

It was time to say goodby to Barbados––the beach, the souvenir stands, the rum punches, warm humid weather, etc. I really had a great time both in Barbados and on my cruise and had met so many very enjoyable people. United had put me now on a U.S. Airways on a flight late in the afternoon from Barbados to Charlotte, North Carolina. But I wouldn’t fly out again until the afternoon of the next day, so I stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn near the airport, cashing in my Holiday Inn points for a free room. Then, I flew from Charlotte, NC, directly to Los Angeles the next day.
