We walked through the pathway between the two coral borders.

At the end of the pathway is what is called the Giant Footprint or Adam's Footprint. The over 3-foot (1-m) footprint is embedded in a rock. Some say it is the footprint of Hanuman, the Monkey God, some say it is of Adam, and some say it is of a giant about 40 feet in height. There is a similar footprint on the nearby island of Nainathivu.

The Delft Island Fort was built by the Portuguese and later taken over by the Dutch. The fort was constructed out of limestone and coral and is now in ruins.

Actually what is left of the old Delft Post Office.

Behind the post office is the Pigeons Nest, which housed about two dozen pigeons that were used to transport messages across the islands, to ships, and to the mainland.

There was also a fort here, now in ruins.

The 12-branch palmyra tree. Every part of the tree is used: the fronds are used for making baskets and roofs, the root and seeds are eaten, and its sap is used for drinks.

Clay pots hanging on the palmyra tree collect sap, called toddy, which is made into wine or a sweet drink.

Our tuk tuk driver, who had invited us into his house for tea as Solomon had not checked the new times for our ferry departure and we had time to waste--2 hours--and which resulted in having no lunch as Solomon said there was no place to eat on Delft Island.

After a two-hour wait in which I ate a third of a big bag of chocolate wafers for my lunch, we were ready to board the ferry to take us back. First, we had to climb on this boat and walk around it.

I did some people-watching while waiting for Solomon to pick me up in the car. I took this photo of these women in their beatiful saris.
