Our first stop on our Dunedin tour today was at the Otago Boys' High School, founded in 1863 and at its present site in 1885. The building is Gothic revival. There was much fog in Dunedin today.

Our next stop was at the Olveston Historic Home.

Olverston was built between 1904 and 1905 for the Theomin family.

Near our next stop, a picture-perfect church.

We are at the site of the world's steepest residental street, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Its name is Baldwin Street, named for William Baldwin, a politican and the original subdivider of the area. The street was not designed to be steep. City plans for streets were laid out in a grid pattern without regard for the terrain.

On the top left of the photo, you can see Claudio, one of my tourmates, in a white shirt with blue sleeves, at the top of the street, though this photos appears to be taken after he had reached the top.

But here he is at the top taking a deserved congratulatory jump. Other members of my tour climbed up but I don't know if anyone else made it to the very top.

Our next stop was at the University of Otago, established in 1869, making it the oldest university in New Zealand. Its most impressive building was partially covered in scaffolding.

Our next stop was for visiting both the Dunedin Railway Station and the Otago Settlers Museum. Photo of the railway station.

The Dunedin Railway Station from the front. The station opened in 1906 and was built in the Flemish renaissance style. It was designed by George Troup and was nicknamed the "Gingerbread George" station.

Train on the outside tracks. Dunedin Railways offer two train tours: to the Taieri Gorge and to the seaside.

Across the street from the station was the old prison built in 1896, closed in 2007 but open for tours.

In the area also was the First Church of Otago, built 1867-73.

This celtic cross was also nearby. It was placed here in Queens Park in celebration of the new millennium.

The Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. "Toitu" is a Maori word, in this case meaning closely "to be preserved forever."

The most fascinating, to me, part of the museum was the Smith Gallery Portraits room, with hundreds of photos of the Scottish settlers in Otago.

Monument to a Highland Chief--Alastair Ranaldson. He was the 17th Chief of the Glengarry MacDonell clan and arrived in Otago during the gold rush. He became ill and died here.
