County Clare

Today, we left Galway in County Galway, then drove through County Clare to Killarney in County Kerry. A very interesting drive as there were many old castles on our route. This photo is of the mid–16th century Doonagore Castle.

The Burren

This area of County Clare is called the Burren. It is of limestone crags and rocky terrain. The body of water in the photo is the Atlantic Ocean.

Cliffs of Moher

We made a stop at the  Cliffs of Moher. The cliffs are made up of precipitous rock and they extend for 5 miles and rise up to 702 feet (214 m).

We drove through this colorful town and also some others.

Next, we crossed the River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland, to get from County Clare to County Kerry.

We arrived in Killarney where we would spend three nights.

In Killarney, we took a jaunting car ride to the Killarney National Park.

One of the sights in the Killarney National Park was the 15th–century Ross Castle.

Country Life

We had a talk this evening by a local resident on rural Irish life and growing up on a small farm in the 1950s.  It was interesting and made us more familiar with Irish culture and the changes in Irish life through the years.
