Going through the Union Pass. This pass is spectacular, but you really need to see it from the front seat of a car as the views are on both sides. On the bus, I could take photos of only one side of it.

Now we would travel for miles and miles through the Mojave Desert. Once in awhile you see scattered dwellings on the desert floor.

Our first view of the Grand Canyon.

We all got on a shuttle bus. There were three stops and we could choose which one or ones we wanted to stop at. Photo: The Grand Canyon seen from the shuttle bus.

My sister and I got off at the second shuttle station at Eagle Point. The Grand Canyon West is not part of the Grand Canyon National Park but, rather, on the Hualapai (pronounced Wa-la-pie) Indian Reservation. The reservation, established in 1883, is less than 1,000,000 acres and the tribe has about 2,300 members.

The Hualapai tribe completed the Skywalk in the photo in March 2007.

The Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped steel frame with a glass floor. It projects about 70 feet (21 m) from the canyon rim and is 4,000 feet (1,219 m) above the canyon floor.

My sister and I both went on the Skywalk. I'm on the left. We did not find it scary at all as we could walk around the horseshoe holding onto the rail. Neither of us had a trouble with the height. No cameras allowed on the Skywalk and we had to put booties on our feet and any bags in lockers. Photos are taken only by the Skywalk photographers.

The following photos were taken at Eagle Point from as close to the edge of the canyon that I felt comfortable being at. There are no rails to prevent you from falling into the canyon.

After having lunch at Eagle Point, we got back on the shuttle bus and got off at Guano Point, the third and highest shuttle stop. Here you can see the muddy-colored Colorado River.

At Guano Point, there was an Indian market, selling mostly jewelry.

We got back on the shuttle bus and got off at the first stop, the Hualapai Ranch. I took a movie of the Grand Canyon on the shuttle bus. See the Days 1-3, Grand Canyon West album.
