The Harbourwalk is a 2.3-mile (3.8-k) walk that starts at the Historic Properties and extends to Pier 21 at the Canadian Museum of Immigration, next to the cruise ship dock.

I started the walk at its northern end. That is Theodore Tugboat on the right.

The Maritime Museum has over 3,000 artifacts of the days of sail, small craft, the Canadian Navy, the Halifax Explosion, the Titanic, etc. The photo is of the Sambo Lighthouse Lens.

An exhibit off the Halifax Explosion. On December 6, 1917, the SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship fully loaded with wartime explosives, collided with the Norwegian vessel, the SS Imo, in Halifax Harbor. It was a cataclysmic explosion. About 2,000 people were killed, about 9,000 injured, and a whole neighborhood destroyed.

The museum had an exhibit on the sinking of the Titanic.

Each recovered body from the Titanic disaster was given a number corresponding to the number in which they were pulled from the sea. Then, a description of the body and the effects found on the body were correlated with this number.

I liked the figurehead section of the museum the best--a collection of ship figureheads from when ships had them. This figurehead is from the HMS Imaum, a 72-gun naval ship, built in Bombay in 1826. In 1936, the Imaun of Muscat sailed her to England to the Royal Navy. She was later removed, displayed in Jamaica, then Bermuda, and, in 1951, in Halifax.

Figureheads were called the "eyes of the seas." They were protective spirits and guiding eyes of a vessel. Lions, politicans, royalty, goddesses, mermaids, and shipmasters were common figureheads.

At the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. I didn't walk here but arrived via Hop-on Hop-off bus. This is Canada's national museum of immigration. Pier 21 was an ocean liner terminal and immigration process center from 1928 to 1971. The photo shows a model of how the center looked.

The museum has a number of exhibits, including this wall of photos of the ocean liners that docked at Pier 21.

To see Halifax Harbor from the water side, I took the ferry to Darmouth, across the harbor. I wanted to take Tugboat Theodore, but it wasn't going out.

The Halifax-Dartmouth ferry docked at Dartmouth. I had a round-trip ticket but still had to get off the ferry and then back on again. Not enough to see in Dartmouth to explore it. The Halifax-Dartmouth Ferry is the oldest saltwater ferry in North America, 1752, and the second oldest in the world.
