On a tour of the beautiful Lake District. It is located in Cumbria in northwest England. Most of the Lake District is in the National Park of England.

First stop. We would stay here for a few minutes to pick up other passengers for our van tour.

Next stop, Wray Castle, a Victorian neo-gothic castle built for a surgeon in 1840. It was willed to the National Trust and it has belonged to them since 1929.

On this beautiful day, people were picknicking with a view of Lake Windermere.

On the road again. Note the drystone wall in the right front of the photo. They are used to mark land boundaries and are built without any mortar. Some of the walls back date to Iron Age times.

Our next stop was at the Hill Top home of Betrix Potter, author of the Peter Rabbit books.

The publication of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" made Beatrix Potter wealthy enough to buy this home and other homes and 14 farms in this area. She bought these properties to keep from having them developed and then willed them to the National Trust. One main reason why the Lake District has remained as countryside.

This was the Betrix Potter house that we visited, but our tour guide told us that she actually lived in a house down the hill.

He said that she lived in the white house in the photo. However, the house is privately owned--hence, why visits are to the first house.

Many of the roads in the Lake District are narrow, making it difficult for two cars to pass by each other.

Our next stop was at Tarn Hows.

But the cows were grazing and resting across the road, but you had to step very carefully where they had been grazing. These are Scottish Belted Galloway cows or, as many people call them, oreo cows.

The lake is named Tarn Hows and it is man-made.
