Our first stop, at the Glooscap Heritage Centre and Mi'kmaq Museum in Millbrook. The Native Canadians are known as First Nation people, which include the Mi'kmaq.

Glooscap, a figure of Mi'kmaq and also of Native American legends. We had a discussion as to whether a photo to show how really big this statue was should have one of my tourmates stand right in front of the statue, as he did here.

Our next stop: Peggy's Cove. Here was heavy fog, very disappointing as both the Peggy's Point Lighthouse, 1868, is probably the most photographed lighthouse in Canada and I was looking forward to taking some good photos of it and because I finally made it here--at a cove having my first name. This is the untouched photo I got of the lighthouse. See Day 9 album for how Peggy's Cove got its name.

Fisherman's Monument in Peggy's Cove, sculpted by Willaim deGarthe, a Finn who had made his home here.

Closer-up. DeGarte started sculpting his "lasting monument to Nova Scotia fishermen" in the late 1970s on a granite outcropping behind his house. It is of 32 fishermen and their wives and children enveloped by the wings of St. Elmo, a guardian angel. However, it was only 50% completed when he died. (It was raining when I took these photos.)

St. Elmo. There is also an image of "Peggy," a survivor of an 18th-century shipwreck who made have given her name of the village, but I do not know where the image of her is located.

Our last stop, in Halifax before arriving at our hotel: at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, where over 100 victims of the sinking of the Titanic are buried.

The rows of grave markers are shaped in a bow to resemble the bow of the Titanic.

The number on the markers correspond to the order in which bodies were recovered from the ocean--this was number 2. It was known who he was from papers, etc., on his person. This J.W. Marriott is not related to anyone in the hotel chain of the same name.

This marker also has a famous name, William Henry Harrison, also no relation to our president of that name.

And the saddest marker, of The Unknown Child. No one had claimed his body. After several incorrect identifications, in 2008 he was determined by DNA to be Sidney Goodwin. The visit to the Titanic grave sites was more than just sad. See Day 9 album for more of the tragedy and the body retrieval.
