The first place we stopped at on our second day in Yangon was at the Shwedagon Pagoda. My photos of it are on a separate slide show (Yangon: Shwedagon Pagoda).

Our next stop would be at the Bogyoke Aung San Museum, the former home of General Aung San, the father of Noble Prize laureate and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Walking up to the museum.

The former home of General Aung Sang. He is known as the Father of Modern Myanmar and considered to be responsible for obtaining the independence of Burma from the British in 1948. He was assassinated in 1947.

Our next stop was at the Chaukhatgyi Pagoda. No strapless, tank top, wide nexk, or crop top shirts, no mini skirts, no short or low waist pants, no shoes, and no socks allowed here.

Inside a large shed is a giant reclining Buddha: 21-1/4 feet long (65 m) and 52-1/2 feet high (16 m).

We next ate lunch in the restaurant. Today, lunch was on Gate 1.

After lunch, we went to the Bogyoke Aung San Market.

Gems, clothing, jewelry, tourist items, etc., were being sold in the market.

After shopping, we made our next stop: at the Colonial Quarter of 19th-century and early 20th-century buildings built mostly by the British.

In the middle is the Immanuel Baptist Church, built 1830. Missionaries brought the Baptist faith to Burma in 1812.

After a short break at our hotel, it was time to go out to dinner at the Karaweik Palace on Kandawgy Lake.

We had to pay for drinks. I shared a bottle of Myanmar beer--it comes in either very large bottles or small cans. Very good.
